Trimming of the oldest and longest shoots is recommended, in order to make room for the new shoots.

If you want to be sure your plant is 100% sterilized against unwanted pests or algae, please perform a quarantine and/or bleach dip; always wash and rinse plants before introducing them to any new environment.
